warplanes WW2 dogfight, between a fighter plane and an airplane
The warplanes WW2 dogfight would be between a fighter plane and an airplane. That is flying close to the ground as close as the trees. It is so close that the aircraft can almost touch each other. The aircraft would have to maneuver its wings and use the rudder to stay within the enemy’s attack range.
The dogs of the dogfight would try their best to keep from getting shot down by the fighters. In some cases, they would even dive into the trees. At other times, they would attempt to make a sudden turn and come straight out of it. If they were hit, they would be forced to dive again and they would be at a severe disadvantage.
Avoid being shot down by the fighters
The dogfight was so exciting because there were so many things to consider. The aircraft would be flying at an extreme angle to try and avoid being shot down by the fighters. It would also have to manoeuvre its engines so that it could make it back. To the airfield as quickly as possible.
The dogfights were so dramatic because the pilots were not afraid of dying. Some pilots would dive their aircraft as deep into the trees as possible… And would be unable to come out after several attempts. Other pilots would simply abandon the aircraft and let the fighters pass them by.
Extremely large and the aircraft
The warplanes of the era were extremely large and the aircraft that was used during. The war were much larger than what we are used to today. It took many pilot’s time for the planes to become used to flying at such high altitudes and speeds.
The fighter planes of the early days were not fast enough… To be able to manoeuvre into position quickly to attack the enemy. When they did become able to manoeuvre and attack the enemy. They would only be able to do so at short ranges. They were not nearly as manoeuvrable as the aircraft that was used in World War II.
